Travelling to Europe and the other colonies
The colony of New France was very isolated from the rest of the world. The inhabitants of New France often had families in France who they could not see because the trip by boat was very long. Plus, it was impossible to travel during the winter because the ice interfered with river traffic.
Canada and the other colonies in America
The other French colonies in America, like Acadia, were also very far from New France. It could take up to 15 days to travel by boat between Québec and Acadia.
